My name is Madisyn Szymczak, and I am a Jump Seat Candidate for the class of 2027. I have been involved in the equestrian sport for over 10 years. As a member of Somerset Sporthorse, under the guidance of trainers Tammy McConnell, Tiffany Walker, and Sandy Walker, I currently compete in the 3’3” Large Junior Hunters on the A circuit, as well as in the Varsity Open Division with the Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA).
I am currently a sophomore at Huntley High School in Huntley, Illinois, where I take great pride in my academic achievements. I am enrolled in several honors courses, along with an Advanced Placement (AP) class, to challenge myself and foster intellectual growth. Outside of school, I spend much of my time at the barn with horses, and when not there, I enjoy volunteering and spending quality time with my family and friends.
Becoming a collegiate-level equestrian is a significant milestone that would play a pivotal role in shaping my future, both academically and athletically. Competing at the collegiate level would provide me with the opportunity to refine my riding skills, work alongside top-tier coaches, and challenge myself in a competitive environment. This experience would not only further my development as an equestrian but also teach me valuable life skills such as discipline, time management, and resilience. Additionally, being part of a college equestrian team would allow me to form lasting connections with like-minded peers and mentors, fostering a sense of community and support. The lessons learned from balancing rigorous academic demands with the physical and mental dedication required for equestrian sports would directly contribute to my success in my future career, equipping me with the determination and work ethic necessary to achieve my long-term goals.
